About this object

Black silk parasol c.1850's. Self pattern fabric of dots. Two frills with pinked edges sewn on around edge, first one narrower than the one on outside edge. Gathered in at top of wooden handle with plain black silk. Inside is lined with plain black silk hiding the inside frame. Wooden handle carved at bottom with floral designs and a scroll hook at the end. Handle is made in two pieces which are held together with a hinge and metal band that can slide away to fold up. Parasol was 120 years old at time of donation.
