Black and red bodice late 19th Century
About this objectBlouse late 19th Century. Silk damask weave pattern of a black background with small red flowers repeating all over. Front is loosely made over a tighter bodice lining, with gathers and tucks. Open down centre front and closed with hooks and eyes. Back is fitted with four panels tapering to waistband, which itself is about an inch wide. Sleeve is made of two pieces and is slightly gathered onto shoulder seam and at elbow to bend. Sleeve cuffs are trimmed with a net ribbon decorated with black beads and a grey (once black) metal flower motif. This decorative ribbon is also used around stand up collar and down either side of front opening. Fully lined with polished cotton.
