Black and red bodice late 19th Century

About this object

Fitted bodice late 19th Century. Silk damask weave pattern of a black background with small red flowers repeating all over. Front is darted to shape, pointed at bottom. Open down centre front with piping at edge and closed with nine carved jet buttons (two missing at waist). Bodice fitted to back with four panels tapering to waist, then flaring out again to a fish tale, created with three box pleats. Long sleeves, piped around armhole seam. Sleeve in two parts, with the outer part heavily rouched and the inside smooth to cuff edge, outside sleeve ends with a wide cuff with piping at each seam and edge. Short stand up collar at neck, small watch pocket at left front. Fully lined with a polished cotton. 'O. Stewart' name tag stitched to side seam.
