About this object

Black satin blouse c.1900's. Boned and shaped and altered many times. Hand and machine made blouse with long bell sleeves at elbow with a tight forearm to cuff. Cuffs are decorated with pin tucks, black lace and at edge a frill of cream net lace and are closed with two hooks and eyes. Shoulders have rows of vertical pin tucks, a panel of pin tucks runs down centre back, the bodice is shaped with darts at waist. Opening down front, closed with 14 hooks and eyes, material there is black brocade, over top is a cream lace which goes around the neck and down to the waist. A black torchon bobbin lace and taffeta pleated trim is overlaid down front and over shoulders and around back, resembling a cape or a shawl. Black ribbon detail sits at centre back bottom, like a tail.
