About this object

Rich brown cotton grosgrain fabric blouse c.1900. Fully lined, boned and fitted bodice. Two tucks at shoulders to waist front and back, both angling towards the centre. Long full sleeves to stiff flared cuffs. Front and back have a deep V inset around neck of cream lace, with a high stand up collar (boned). Lining is a dark green cotton with gold embroidery over the boning to secure, darts at front have been taken out and replaced with extra fabric, to make bigger size. The edge of the brown blouse front and back at lace inset is decorated with brown and cream lace motifs in a design of layered flowers and leaves. Open at front, closed with hook and eyes on left shoulder to centre front with the brown blouse crossing overtop of the lace inset. Bronze coloured bow at bottom centre back.
