Beaded handbag

About this object

Black silk velvet handbag, beaded with floral pattern and monogram on reverse. Clasp is metal (silver plated brass?) with a Dutch design. Lie over catch, when open the bag forms a square, by having a hinge in each middle part. It is embossed with Dutch scenes of countryside, with male and female figures and windmills. Chain handle is attached on two metal loops on the clasp. Beadwork is silver, pink, and blue floral design, with 'H.F.' monogrammed on one side. Lined with gold silk trimmed with florette braid.
