About this object

An abstract 'collage-style' scene featuring a range of objects that relate to Japanese culture including: traditional blossom and bonsai tree and wave imagery, calligraphy, cityscapes, theatrical masks, the 'Rising Sun' motif and food. At centre are two figures scratched (scraffito) into the paint, which have building/box shaped heads who are marching in a line and holding umbrellas. There is another group of figures, painted in black, also holding umbrellas, which have been partially obscured with a field of black paint.
