About this objectA satirical surrealist illustration featuring a caricature of a local government politician (with a turkey-like neck), accompanied by a hen/rooster, studying a decorative bird cage containing a native bush-like environment, which is placed on a table inside a room. It is a commentary on the bureaucracy of national conservation parks as seen from the perspective of an activist (the artist) involved with the conservation movement.

The statement was "can't make an omelette without breaking eggs", which reflected his atttiude to conservationists and their attempts to protect areas of the West Coast bush from deforestation as a result of logging and mining.
