Subject and Association DescriptionThe Dun Mountain horse drawn tramway was opened in 1862 to connect the chromite mines with Port Nelson. By 1866 the chromite deposits were exhausted and the mining company went into liquidation in 1872. The tramway was removed but the Dun Mountain walkway continues to follow its path up the mountain.
