Subject and Association Description

In early 1959 Toss Woollaston spent several weeks painting fulltime in the area around Greymouth. He still had a portion of his 1958 annual Association of New Zealand Art Societies Fellowship left and used this to support himself. A fruitful series of drawings and watercolours were produced though the experience left him dissatisfied with his progress in oils.

Some of the works from this period were exhibited in March 1959 at Gallery 91, Christchurch's first contemporary art dealer gallery.
