Subject and Association DescriptionBy the 1960s, Toss Woollaston had begun to make a tradition of three months painting in Tasman over the summer, a break from his work in Greymouth. He spent early 1961 with Pat Harris and family in Upper Takaka. Woollaston found the new details of the Takaka landscapes, an area he had not worked with previously, stimulating with the high hills, big skies and hidden seas. Already, by March, he counted 151 works so far that year.
