Subject and Association Description

This study of Arthur Prior was likely drawn in October 1958. Toss Woollaston's wife, Edith spent a week in Christchurch staying with Mary and Arthur Prior before Toss came to pick her up and return to Greymouth.

Arthur Prior was a foundation professor of philosophy at Canterbury University College before he and his wife moved to England in 1959 to take up the Manchester University chair of philosophy. Mary was an amateur artist. The two families became firm friends and Toss stayed with the Priors in England in 1962.
