Subject and Association Description

Toss Woollaston lived in Greymouth between 1949 and 1968. Although an active member of the Westland Art Society, Woollaston felt that the Greymouth public under appreciated his work and to the majority of the town he simply retained his image as the door to door Rawleigh's salesman.

Woollaston struggled with the dark and brooding West Coast scenery and made regular trips back to the Tasman area to paint landscapes, yet there is also a substantial body of West Coast works.
