Subject and Association Description

John Gully lived in the Taranaki region when he first arrived in New Zealand. The New Zealand Wars caused many to flee this area and in 1860 the Gully family settled in Nelson. The are few Gully paintings from the period he lived in Taranaki. This painting is from 26 years after he left.
