Photographic print copy of landscape painting. Depicts house built for Captain Charles Henry Montressor Smith now known as Bell House at original location near Pakuranga Creek. Hunua Ranges in the background.
Built in 1851, this home was originally the dwelling of Fencible Officer Captain C.H. Montressor Smith, before being sold to settler farmers – first Joseph King in 1856, then Alexander Bell in 1894. It was moved to its present site by Alexander Bell in 1895. The Bell family had bought surrounding farmland in 1868, and continued to own and farm that land until the 1970s.
