This is no bands man jacket.
It is an Undress Patrol Jacket for Service in the Field. As described in the 1883 and 1891 War Office dress regulations for Colonels on the Staff and worn in New Zealand by Staff Officers. The black mohair braid and loops have faded and originally there would have been 4 netted olivets on each of the 5 rows of mohair loops.
