About this object

Hawthornden (now demolished) which was built on Cook Street for Captain MacDonald in 1848 and sold to Colonel Ponsonby Peacocke. The last residents were Mrs Lambeth, daughters Mrs Jack Gandy and Mrs Hawkins. Mr Lambeth was twice married. He bought the house from Mr Shutterworth in 1914. It is said that Lady Peacocke buried treasure in the grounds and that her ghost has been seen several times including by Jack Gandy. + 3 copies,1 smaller and 6 enlargements
