Writing under the photo says - Galloway Redoubt Wairoa, an advanced post in Native War held by detachments 2nd Batte/ 18th Rotal Irish 65 Regt Rifle Volunteers 1863. Shows the tented camp within a rectangular strucure further fortified by caponier bastions on the south-west and north-east corners, other buildings, the flagpole and trees. 1 smaller b/w copy
