Little Bucklands Beach; c1930; 2016.604.02

Name/Title

Little Bucklands Beach

About this object

The foreshore at Little Bucklands Beach at low tide showing broken bricks and drain tiles. The beach "foundations" was all swamp peats covered by volcanic as of pumice (ignimbrite volcanoes of Taupo?). Note old tree vegetation and layer of dead cockleshell which was once overlaid by beach sand. There is no sound foundation on which to establish rigidity. Undermining of the concrete structure is already apparent and head erosion is well advanced. An old creek once crossed the beach roughly about mid photograph. (Written on rear of photograph.) . Browns Island centre, with Motutapu Island behind.
