About this object
Originally invented in the early 20th Century to help save lives in the event of a shipwreck, the Carruthers brothers of the Mokau district modified this Schermuly Rocket in the early 70s to bring television to many farming families in remote parts of the region.The brothers were pioneers of television in North Taranaki and would shoot 180lb nylon and wires in excess of 800 metres to facilitate the installation of television feeder wires from the top of hills, over virgin bush to farmhouses below.
