About this object
A black and white portrait of Mrs McGregor, proprietress of the Bridge Hotel. The reverse of the photograph has been used to handwrite a note to someone (see 'inscriptions and marks').

According to the book 'Mataura: City of the Falls' (pg. 216-217), Mrs McGregor ran the Hotel between 1908 and around 1920, and during that time the Hotel reached a high standard and was a very popular place for travellers to stop. Nothing is known of her husband Mr I. McGregor, but their son, Neil, played local rugby before moving on and becoming an All Black in 1925 (see MT2011.185.477).
