About this object
Tray cloth; cream Irish linen featuring an oval centre surrounded by cream cut work edging of acorns and oak leaves. It was made by Miss Bessie McGowan. Bessie was one of 6 daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel McGowan of Gowan Brae, Mataura. Because of ill health, needlework was her life's interest, and she was encouraged by her family to enter her work in many different shows. In 1926 she won the silver cup for the most talented needle worker at the Dunedin Exhibition. Bessie died in 1927, aged 46.
