About this object
A mock-up of a mug for consideration for production.
An original design on paper has been attached to a mug, to help show the final look of the finished product. The design has been painted with gouache paint onto paper. These mock-ups would have been assessed for production by a panel or team, and not all of them would have been produced.
This mug dates from the 1980s. At that time the fashion was for pastel colours and many of the designs of this era were in pinks and greys. During the 1980s, mugs became one of Crown Lynn’s core products and helped boost flagging sales. However mugs as we know them today did not exist until the 1970s. In the 1960s Crown Lynn had produced ‘Coffee cans’ which were large straight-sided cups with saucers, at that time mostly used for drinking instant coffee.
