About this object
A piece of competition artwork from designer Peter Gibbs of Auckland showing a geometric design in blue and grey on a ‘Shape twenty-5’ coffee pot, cup, saucer and side plate.
Peter Gibbs won the $800 first prize in the 1967 Crown Lynn Design Awards for this design which was later produced with the decoration name 'Novelle'.

The Crown Lynn annual design awards, introduced by Tom Clark to help foster home grown design talent, was well established by the late 1960s. With over 1000 entries in 1967, the competition offered an opportunity to young industrial designers to see their designs on the world stage. Some competition winners, notably Mark Cleverley, went on to become Crown Lynn employees.
