About this object
A model-maker’s log book. It is believed to have belonged to Tam Mitchell, who worked at Crown Lynn from 1951 for several decades. It covers the period from 1959 until 1964.
Tam’s job was to make a plaster model, which was then used to make moulds from which products would be cast. The log book outlines which designs he was working on each day, and includes small drawings.
Many of the vases, jugs and other items made by Crown Lynn during that period can be found listed in this log book, giving us a unique record of when they were first made. The matt white ‘Curly lettuce’ and ‘Gnarled root base’ vases shown on this page are included in the Portage Ceramics Trust collection and also appear in the 1962 Price list.
