About this object
Trenching machine mounted on crawler tracks. A Wisconsin engine provides the power.When trenches were required for installation of power and telephone cables or water pipes, after the Second World War, original development used rubber tyres. These were not successfaul so crawler tracks were used. Later development of hydraulic drives allowed the wheeled machine to gain popularity as each wheel could be independently driven. This particular machine was one of the 503 track laying machines at Tapanui for the world rcord attempt March 2008
