Royal New Zealand Navy Museum

Torpedo Bay - Te Kainga O Te Waka Taonga O Te Taua Moana, Torpedo Bay - The home of the canoe of treasures of the Sea Warriors, is the new Navy Museum. The new Devonport site sits on the South West of North Head and is right beside the water.

Torpedo Bay is of exceptional heritage significance having been continuously occupied by New Zealand military forces since 1880. It was a key part of Auckland’s early defence system and is now the most substantial and intact 19th century mining base to survive in New Zealand.

The existing heritage buildings on the site have been redeveloped to accommodate the new Museum. Inside completely new permanent exhibitions showcase the story of the Navy’s contribution to the development of New Zealand’s identity through the lens of the Navy’s values - commitment, courage and comradeship.
