About this object
Piano; an Erard upright piano, made from rosewood. Inlaid in the front of the piano is a decorative panel in satinwood in a neoclassical design. There are carved scrolling supports at each side below the keyboard. Two brass candle sconces flank the panel, and the piano has two brass pedals. This piano was made in France in 1906.

Allan Kerr Taylor's second wife Sophia was a strikingly attractive woman interested in drama, art and music. She sang in the church choir and at local concerts, and also played the piano. This fine Erard piano is still in the house, together with a large collection of sheet music for voice, piano, organ, and many libretti.
