The Wellington Fire Museum Trust

Preservation of the past, Education for the future

Celebrating 140 years of the Wellington Fire Brigade’s 1865-2005

The Wellington Fire Museum Trust was established in March 2003 as a not for profit charitable trust to develop a Fire Museum and Education centre to preserve Wellington's firefighting history and honour the thousands of paid and volunteer Fire fighters that have protected their community and city, whilst also educating the public about the dangers of fire

It is intended that the museum will be a “Visual and Hands On” type of situation. The displays would offer firstly a historical background as well as an educational situation for all ages. It will cater for the general public, school parties from kindergarten to college age groups as well as be suitable for tour parties.

At present the collection consists of six fire engines of which 4 are privately owned and are on loan to the museum but funding is being sought at the moment to acquire them to add to the museums collection. A number of private fire engine owners have shown interesting storing and having on display their fire engine if a suitable permanent museum is established.
