About this object
This is the last of many stables built on this site for William Hastwell who, with Cobb & Co, operated a coaching and mail service between the Wairarapa and Wellington from 1866 until rail services began in 1880. At one stage there were up to 70 horses stabled at this site.
The cobbled yard and stables still on site gave the Cobblestones Museum its name.
