Name/Title
Walter Strang Otago XI Autograph Bat, 1929
About this object
Walter Strang only played in one First Class game, facing Canterbury at Lancaster Park, Christchurch in January 1930. However, he obviously had some pedigree in the sport - he captained the Otago side in a match they lost by an innings and 227 runs.

Having debuted at 41 in the last game of the 1929-30 provincial season, Walter was seemingly overlooked for further Otago selection. The Dunedin correspondent for the NZ Truth wondered why he wasn't included in the Otago trial squad the following season. In spite of his lack of opportunities with Otago, Walter was a stalwart of Dunedin club cricket and was very well-respected in cricket circles.

Walter served in both World Wars, leaving for WWI as part of the 29th Reinforcements Canterbury Infantry Regiment, C Company on August 15 1917.
