About this object
The Waikato Militia was disbanded when the Armed Constabulary Act was passed in New Zealand, 1867. The new Armed Constabulary shared jurisdiction with the Auckland Provincial Police with general duties of keeping communications open and making roads, keeping the peace, digging gardens, wheeling gravel, fencing paddocks, planting trees and guard duties. By mid 1884 a full troop was no longer required in Cambridge so all movable buildings and most personnel were transferred to Kihikihi.
