About this object
The Holy Bible written in Maori, 1848. This bible was translated and has annotations and corrections in the margins by Rev. William Williams (1800 - 1878). The bible was printed by T.R.Harrison, London. It is bound in brown leather with a stitched binding and measures 180 x 120 x 40mm (HWD). William Williams arrived in Paihia, 25 March 1826. By September 1826 he had begun his first serious effort to translate the scriptures into the Maori language. Copyright
