About this object
A circular breast ornament of pearl shell and sea mammal ivory with a suspension cord of white tapa and fibre. The ornament consists of a complete pearl shell valve overlaid with four lunate ivory segments (two truncated) which completely cover the edge of the pearl shell leaving a central square exposed apart from a four pronged ivory `star' right in the centre. The ivory overlays are attached by metal rivets and one fibre binding. The cords consist of a bunch of fibres wrapped in tapa.
