About this object
Lockheed 10A Electra - PV1138 (NZ1735) - ZK-BUT. Moved to MOTAT in 1968 and painted to represent L10a ZK-AFD in its Union Airway scheme.

Twin-engine, high speed passenger and freight carrier. Monocoque construction where the load is carried by the skin of light alloy.
Engines: Pratt and Whitney. Silver fuselage, silver wings, large tail with twin fins. The basic colour is silver, but there is red pin-striping along the fuselage. Fuselage markings in red are ZK-AFD. On the tail fin the marking is "Lockheed". Also on the fuselage is the Union Airways logo and the word "KUAKA". The window frames inside the aircraft are wooden. The cabin is painted green.
Construction: stressed skin, all metal, low-winged monoplane. Twin-tailed configuration.
Engines: 2 Pratt and Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior 9 cylinder air-cooled radials.
Maximum power for take-off: 450 HP @ 2300 rpm.
Propellers: Hamilton Standard, 2-bladed constant speed propeller, diameter 9 ft. N10Y - Standard oil Development Co;

NC21735 - Roy Collins Construction Co Trans Island Airways Ltd. "Spirit of Tasman Bay".
Operated the Christchurch to Oamaru route but it was ground looped at Harewood on 19th of February 1959.
