About this object
In 2005 Kirsten Haydon won the prestigious Thomas Gold Award with this golden play on Meccano. Constructed from miniature meccano-like units and connectors, Kirsten Haydon fabricated her award winning design Networks from 14 and 18 carat gold. Playing on the recyclable nature of gold, Kirsten’s necklace can be disassembled and reassembled using the miniature gold wrench that she made as part of the kit. Kirsten Haydon began her jewellery training at the Manukau Institute of Technology in Auckland, before attending the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Kirsten Haydon is currently working towards a doctorate at RMIT, and lives between Melbourne and Auckland.
