Flare gun; a British, No. 1 Mark III brass flare gun, manufactured by Webley & Scott Ltd, Birmingham, around 1918. The gun is stamped with New Zealand military markings. The original wooden inserts of the handle have deteriorated, leaving only the brass frame.
