Magic Lantern with coloured glass slides. An oil lamp or candle was used for a light source. Was used in the Ring family of Hinuera. It illuminated the slides and projected them, magnified, onto a wall

Subject and Association Description
Magic Lanterns were used for home entertainment and were all the rage in the early 1900s - 1930s. They were illuminated by a candle, spirit or gas flame (later electricity). Mrs Ring remembers their family using a light bulb on the end of a cord to light this one.
