About this object
John McLachlan gifted Cornwallis Park to Auckland city in 1910 to commemorate the early settlers. A monument was erected at the highest point of the Puponga Peninsula to commemorate the memory of his mother Isabella, and the first immigrants on the ship Brilliant in 1841. In 1934 the monument was split asunder by lightning.
