About this object
Photograph of 29766 Sgt. Ronald King and his father-in-law, Thomas Cannon who was the local policeman in Ruawai. Ron served in the second world war with the 18th Land Armoured Division and was captured by Rommel at Mersa Matruh in the Western Desert. As a POW he was moved from Italy to Austria then Germany staying at camps, Grippihama 57(Italy), Stalag 137 (Austria), Stalag 8A (Gorlitz) then was sent 396km on a forced march to Duderstadt in 1945. They were freed by US troops on the 9th April 1945.
