Subject and Association Description
Edmund Hillary was the leader of the New Zealand Ross Sea party of the Commonwealth Trans Antarctic Expedition of 1956 - 1958 and was in the team which was the first to reach the South Pole overland by motorised vehicle and the first to the Pole overland since Robert Falcon Scott. The Sculptor was Mr FCW Staub a Christchurch artist who was the pupil of Francis A Shurrock.
